Each flamingo lily in this photo is the size of a cupped hand. There are more than 700 variants of the flamingo lily (anthurium) species. These flamingo lilies are native to Ecuador. They grew in the Hawaiian rainforest that is considered to be the last lowland rainforest in the United States. The links to certificates show that Elisabeth Green protected that forest. She pulled the weeds to allow these flowers to grow on their vines. She chased away the wild pigs that were damaging the native forest. In many ways, she protected the rainforest that removed carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. That is how she got the credit for postponing climate disasters.
