Suppose we viewed all relationships with compassion. Also, we decided to conserve the health of all people, of each individual. What would be the need for marriage entitlements? When health is at risk, marriage entitlements help marriage partners conserve it with compassion. So, gay couples wish to conserve health compassionately by using the privilege of marriage entitlements.

In a marriage, one spouse may represent the other who falls ill or is victimized. In a family, a parent may represent a child who falls ill. Sophisticates may pay legal costs to set up a trust for such representation. Otherwise, loved ones have no legal right to represent each other in an emergency. Thus, it is legal to discriminate against people for being single, emancipated and unsophisticated.

The problem with marriage entitlements is one of discrimination against single people. Marriage entitlements include the right of representation in an emergency. They require employees to discriminate against a class of people. Single people who fall prey to disaster or illness have no automatic representation by a loved one.

How can we conserve the health and virtue of such individuals? We may leave it up to emergency response personnel. Disaster response or medical employees are often left with the burden of representing the victims. Whose interests do they serve? If they work for a private company, they may be motivated to use the victim to make a profit. Unethical physicians have used people in biological and nuclear warfare experimentation.

Marriage entitlements are tempting to many gays and Lesbians. Envy is one of the seven deadly sins. We can prevent envy. We can make marriage entitlements available to all couples who are in fact responsible for each other.
roommates through a standard leasing contract
best friends through a letter of intent
clergy and parishioners through the confirmation process
rabbis and the synagogue through the covenant
pastors and church members through the covenant
those who share bodily fluids through common law marriage

Or, we can do away with marriage entitlements altogether. But then, how do we conserve the will of the ill? How can we compassionately respect those who are at the mercy of for-profit corporations?

What is the purpose of marriage entitlements, if not to create a caste system? The sacraments separate people according to will power. Baptism marks those who will resist sin. Communion marks those who will obey God. Marriage marks those who cannot control themselves, or are called to serve as a spouse. The separation of church and state allows each church to further define marriage. It allows each to provide marriage ceremonies to those who fit the definition they espouse.

Do we, the church or the government, wish to prevent some harmful religious ceremonies? We have deterred some cults from poisoning, bleeding and sacrificing people. However, Lesbian marriage has not scientifically been proven harmful. Also, if gay marriage were considered harmful, sodomy laws would be ubiquitous and enforced.

At times, government has prevented polygamy. We can reasonably enter the monogamy promotion business for disease prevention. However, the intention is clearly not disease prevention. If it were, adultery would void civil marriage contracts and stop marriage entitlements. Also, we, the government, would have prosecuted tens of millions of rapes over the past few years.

Are marriage entitlements intended to further overpopulate the USA? If they were, we would not deport law-abiding immigrants, such as is done with Haitians. If we wanted more natural born citizens than immigrants, we would deport all violent immigrants. Or, we would prevent many abortions through childbearing and rearing subsidies.

Are marriage entitlements intended to shift the responsibility of medical decisions to partners? If so, then we would make trust agreements as available and easy as voter registrations. Or, we would extend marriage entitlements to all committed couples. That includes any two Christians gathered in the name of God.

Violent persecution has maimed and mutilated many Americans. The people of God visited these sisters and brothers in the hospital, The priest spent the night watching over the violated and vulnerable soul. The married pastor did not, because he had a wife at home. His home was on Earth, not in heaven. His wife was a woman, not the body of Christ. He had marriage entitlements with the body of Christ, but chose to ignore them.

However, when the mutilated martyr was imprisoned, only a spouse was entitled. Neither the rabbi nor the pastor was entitled to express the love of God. No one could spend the night and watch over the violated and vulnerable soul. The law allowed no one to love the single, the widow or the orphan.

How can idol-worshippers see that we are a single-family unit? For the love of money, they discriminate against Him and His members. How can the law recognize our holy unity? Who will require the will of God be done, if not the people of God?

Perhaps, marriage entitlements are a sort of welfare for the surety-impaired. If so, then they need to be viewed as such. That means that the will of the single, widowed or orphaned supercedes the opinion of the professional.

So, what do marriage entitlements actually accomplish? They enable the targeting of gays, singles, widows and orphans for violent persecution. Their function is discrimination. Are they unconstitutional?

We are all created equal, endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights. Surely, one of those is love.
